What is a TPO Roof?
A TPO roof is one of the two main options for white membrane roofing. TPO, or Thermoplastic Polyolefin, is single-play and made up of a layer of synthetics and reinforcing scrim. They cost about $5 per square foot for both materials and labor.
TPO chemically adheres to insulation on your roof and the seams are fused with a hot air gun. They’re available in white, gray, tan, and other specialty colors.

What Is an EPDM Roof?
EPDM, or Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, is a single-ply membrane-like TPO. The main difference is that it’s made up of a synthetic rubber compound, providing more flexibility.
An EPDM roof coating costs about the same as TPO, but there are some important differences to consider.
First of all, EPDM is older than TPO and doesn’t reflect sunlight the same way. It’s mechanically attached and primarily comes in black or white.

Pros and Cons of a White Membrane Roofing System
